cabin camping

While the kids were out of school for fall break we were able to go up to my grandma's cabin for a long weekend.  We had a really good time.  We spent a lot of time at the pond in Midway.  The pond is great, the fishing is pretty good (once we figured out if we use bread we get a bite every time) the fish are pretty big and there is a little playground so when the kids get bored they can play.

Friday morning Jason got up early to go fly fishing on the Provo river.  We didn't get to the cabin until after 10:00 pm the night before so Brennen was tired and didn't want to go fishing with him that morning.  Jason didn't  catch any fish but had quite the interesting experience anyway.  When he got back to parking lot after fishing there were police everywhere.  One of them rushed up to him and asked if he had seen a girl with a gun down by the river.  He told them that he had not and told them where he had been.  The police then told him that he had better leave RIGHT NOW.  They had the roads all blocked off so they had to move out of the way for him to leave...pretty crazy!  We later found out a 40 yr old woman took off with a gun apparently to commit suicide.  They ended up finding her before she did.

Delma's fish!  She was sooo excited!  We bbq'd it for dinner that night.

Kiara waiting for her fish...she gets pretty bored waiting
finally got one!
her fish was almost as big as Delma's (You can see B is pretty disappointed his sisters caught a fish first)

Brennen caught several fish, he also went fishing with Jason early one morning a caught a few then too.
THE TRAIN RIDE
We took the kids for a ride on the Heber Valley Railroad.  They had a new one where you stop half way at a pumpkin patch.  The kids get to pick out a pumpkin and decorate it and get some hot cocoa and a cookie.  We were a bit disappointed with the whole thing.  It took 2 hrs and more than half the time we spent standing in line to get on and off the train.  The "pumpkin patch" was really just a pile of pumpkins and the "corn maze" was just a couple of bales of hay to walk through to get to the pile of pumpkins.  They gave the kids stickers to put on their pumpkins and that didn't take long so then we sat around waiting for the train to come back to pick us up.  The train ride to and from the "pumpkin patch" was only about 15 minutes long so not long at all considering each time we got on and off the train we stood in line for 20 minutes.  Oh well.  We thought it would be really great since their Halloween ride that we did a few years ago was really cool.

CASCADE SPRINGS
We love going to Cascade Springs.  It was beautiful weather the entire weekend so it was a wonderful walk.
Delma loves reading the signs

GOING FOR A WALK
Before we went home we went for a walk, Delma got tired and went for a ride instead...what a cutie!
We had a great time!  Can't wait to go back next year.

Looks like a great get a way! That cabin is a real blessing for the whole Workman family! Too bad the train situation was so disappointing.
