Kiara's Monarch Butterfly
Our last camping trip to Diamond Fork I found a monarch caterpillar while we were hiking to the hot springs. I gave it to Kiara who was really excited, she had always wanted one. She set out to find the right kind of leaves for it and put it in her bug habitat which she always takes with us outdoors just in case. About one day after got home from camping the caterpillar had gone into a cocoon. We were all really excited to keep an eye on it. We were so thrilled when about a week later we got a beautiful butterfly. We new it was close so Kiara set a timer and was checking on it every half hour. We barely missed watching it come out but saw it right after. It looked all wet and shriveled but within minutes was a normal gorgeous butterfly. We let it go later that day and were able to watch it fly to the top of our tree in our backyard. Such a wonderful and beautiful experience!
