Demolition Derby

The middle of September we decided to go to the demolition derby in Logan.  We go every year with my siblings and their kids, we always have such a great time.  This derby turned out to be quite an adventure!  A storm was coming that day so we were a little worried but when we got there it looked like the storm had passed us by and it was wonderful weather.

I was a little worried about TJ and covered his ears during all the noise.  He couldn't keep his eyes off the cars and thought it was great!  Here he is hanging out with uncle Travis.  He is such a trooper!

Delma was so excited to go to the derby.  She tells us that watching the cars crash is her favorite thing.  She usually looks scared while it's happening but she says she loves it!

Brennen of course had a blast, partly because he just loves hanging out with his cousins.

Delma's favorite truck...pink!  She was also fascinated that one of the cars had a lady driver.

There were two trucks by the edge of the circle when one more truck plowed into them.  This shoved one of the trucks over the edge of dirt and it completely flipped upside down!

The driver was trapped inside and for a while nobody knew how his condition was.  They had several firetrucks and ambulances come in to help.  They had to spray it down before using the "jaws of life" to cut him out to prevent a fire.

It took about an hour for this whole process.  We were only halfway through the second heat when this happened.  The kids at first thought it was really cool, until we told them someone might be hurt.  They watched with fascination as the emergency crew worked hard to help the man that was trapped.

Porter and Delma are such good buddies.

They finally got him out, he was alert and seemed to not have any serious injury but of course they put him on a stretcher and took him straight to the hospital.

They got truck up-right and was able to tow it away.

The excitement didn't end there, we watch two more heats then all of the sudden the wind picked up and it started to rain.  We were pulling out our umbrellas to put over the little kids and everyone was freaking out a little because it was so windy.  Then the power went out so all the lights for the stadium went off.  It was completely black and windy and raining.  We gathered up all our stuff and did a head count of all 10 kids and headed off to our cars in the dark.  It was a pretty crazy adventure, but we still had a lot of fun!
